I pray, I honestly do, that each race introduced is just for cosmetic. That there is no serious things, besides little things like "These creatures have a .5% faster run speed"

That sort of thing isn't going to change anything.

I agree half-n-half. I'll post my opinion in this thread, as well: I think racial abilites and/or stats would be pretty cool to see, but it would cause an annoying limitation in PvP. Having to pick your professions based on a race is a bad way to go.

Well Undead would be incredibly lame, but not all are mindless. There are sentient ones. eg, the quest guy in Sulphurous Wastes.

Yeah I suppose they do look a little different. But so do Krytans and Ascalons. I'm guessing the Stone Summit will be wiped and the survivors will probably be absorbed into normal dwarf society... or executed for war crimes.

Yeah my point wasn't really that Stone Summit should be a different race, but more like that they are a different race as in Tyrian to Canthan or Elonian. A race within a race deal. Would add for mroe customization, just as there are Elonian Centaurs which are more gazelle like and Tyrian centaurs which are more horse like.

I can live with the tengu if they stop that hellish squawking. I can't stand Talon for that very reason and would rather have that defunct assassin henchie than that oversized parrot any day of the week

All this speculation on races makes racial abilites and resulting skill impact very interesting to me (lack of skin, incapable of bleeding/poison, natural resistance, etc.).

maybe the Charr are the shapeshifters
(the Charr actually developed shapeshifting abilities in 200 years or so)

it would be somewhat redundant if there are two canine-type races in the game.

a little far-fetched but hey as long as we're guessing, might as well

seriously though, i would want to see a "flying" race and an "elemental" race.

No, the Norn are the confirmed shapeshifting race.

Charr will probably have unique fire skills.

Anyway, what other canine race are you referring to?

Sylvari are "beings of light", so they could be considered an elemental race...

I'd rather be able to summon and control elementals, than play one.

And no to a flying race... it would give too many advantages the other races don't have.

If you can accept that different professions in GW currently have health bars, energy bars, and armor that maxes at different points...haven't you already accepted the idea that the differences between professions confers certain intrinsic abilities not available to others? How is that different from accepting that different races are also intrinsically strong and weak in certain areas?

Plus, if every profession across the board has some form of "speed" skill, why not free up that slot on the bar and create a race that's a little faster all the time? Or if you buy particular armor in order to get resistence to physical or elemental damage...why not link that to a race instead of a profession? That would add more flexibility rather than less to the way that you play a given profession.

If you ask me, what you have is a situation where right now there's "Column A" and "Column B" where one column is the profession, and the other are the attributes/bonuses/etc. available to it. But if you make "Column A" "Column B" and "Column C" - well, obviously, the possibilities to mix and match are much greater.

The hardest part would be, as some people have brought up, not creating races that more or less compel a certain playstyle. But I don't doubt that it's *possible* to avoid this pitfall, and it's clear that there is a potentially exponential increase in customization.

Wow. No, I never played mad gab, and I never expected a mispelling that bad. Anyhow, I'm glad, yet sad. I'm glad because Satyr's just suck. I'm sad, because we still have the pokemen.

Charr aren't canine related. They're supposed to be big cats. Like lions. With horns.

Well i'm inclined to agree with most of you and agree that as a previous poster mentioned, A-net are more likely to dredge up old mythic kinds of beings to make as races than use the generic ones that are beaten to death. What i'm wondering about is how you will use these new races, will they be backwards compatible because
"The Eye of the North expansion contains only max-level content. There's no time to train raw recruits; no time to study with great masters. Only heroes need apply." so obviously you'll apparently need to train up prior to doing the expansion. and on another note, hey phal long time no see, how are things? (Net connection prevents play for one more month then i can return)

Seems to me that the main difference between races will be additional skill-abilities.

This is coming closer to confirming my previous speculative theory that GW2 will include a skill system as follows: Primary Profession skills -> Secondary Profession skills -> Race Specific skills

I personally like the idea... As long as those race specific skills are well-balanced. But I trust aNet has time to work on that.

Now I just wish they'd announce what professions will be available. I'm hoping for all 10 current professions, myself... Just reworked and balanced out.

Priorities must be set. If Anet tried to make every race that appeared in GW1 (all campaigns + GW:EN, then GW2 won't be ready for at least 5 years.

I'm thinking mostly about humans, charr, dwarves, centaurs, norn, sylvari, and asuras. That would already be 7 spieces, with armor sets needed for all professions.

I think it's been said some where, perhaps the magazine, that all armor is going to be the same for each race? Or that any profession can wear any-said armor?
